Chocolate Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies | I turn into Cookie Monster when we bake these... #cookies #oatmeal #recipe

Today, my daughter learned the meaning of the word, “Mooooooommmmm!”

She’s been saying “mom” for a while, but not like this. Today, she learned that when she says it, I come.

Of course, today, I still think it’s cute. I’m aware that the novelty of it will soon wear off (probably by tomorrow). But tonight, I still it’s utterly heart melting. I’m still amazed anytime she says anything and understands the meaning behind it. So to grasp the concept of a word that means ME? Pretty fabulous.

So that was our game today. It went something like this:

“Mom? Mom? Mom? Mom? Mom? Mooommmmmmmmm?”

“Yes?”

“Shoe on.”

“Okay.”

I leave the room.

“Mom? Mom? Mom? Mom? Mom? Mom? Mom? Mom? Mom?”

“Yes?”

“Dress on.”

“Ok. Yes, Belle looks very pretty in her dress.”

I leave the room.

“Mommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?”

“Yes?”

“Shoe off.”

“Ok.”

It was a nice part of my day. A little more physically active than I typically like to be (with all the ups and downs), but still nice to have that interaction with her ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Ok, so these cookies, right?

Let me put into words how incredible these are: they were meant to go elsewhere as a guest post. But I took one bite and knew they would have to stay here.

Frankly, I can’t even bring myself to bake the rest of the dough, because I turn into Cookie Monster the moment these come out of the oven. (Thanks for all of your great cookie-dough-gift-giving suggestions by the way! I’ll be putting them to good use ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Anyway. I hope you guys love these as much as we did over here!!

  1. I don’t have any sea salt on hand…I wonder, do you think you can use regular table salt instead? I’d love to make these today.

  2. It is VERY sweet when your little ones start talking, and especially when they call you mom (mommy):) Precious! These cookies are a perfect way to celebrate such a milestone, and every other milestone to come:)

  4. Someone once told me that kids do the “Mom” thing when they want your attention, but haven’t yet begun to frame the question – in other words – when I’m ready, I want you to be ready.

  6. Love, love, love the new design, especially the mixer. Your daughter sounds adorable. My 2 year old son is finally starting to talk more and is now a parrot, repeating every word 50 times. These cookies are calling my name. Double chocolate is always a winner.

  8. Hi. These cookies sound so good! I hope to make them soon.

Just an FYI — the link to the strawberry cheesecake ice cream is broken. It should be: somethingswanky.com/strawberry-cheesecake-easy-ice-cream/ but it has some additional code in the URL.

  9. I’m making these puppies right now! The batter is delicious, I looked high and low for a good chewy chocolate cookie recipe, glad to have found this! Looking forward to the end result. I recommend chilling the dough before you bake, it will produce thicker cookies. Thanks!

  10. I made these to take to my neighborhood Bunco group. I took the advice of another reviewer and chilled the dough prior to baking. (I only had time to put it in the freezer for maybe 10-15 mins.) This did help them from turning out too flat…but they weren’t super puffy either. I had to bake these the full 14 mins., however. The recipe makes about 40 cookies, if using an average size cookie scoop. They are delicious! As a chocolate lover, I knew these would not disappoint. Can’t wait to make them again.

  11. Fabulous! I substituted white chocolate chips for half the semi-sweet morsels. The little bits of white look great and taste yummy. I also used instant oatmeal to keep the texture smoother for the kids. It worked, so they are getting a little good grains with these otherwise sinful delights. We are half the batch within half an hour. I can’t wait to make them again. Thanks for a great recipe.

  12. I have made these a few times and love them! I have made a few changes a few times. I’ve actually made them without the cocoa just for something different. They are delicious both ways. I posted about them on my blog.. which I just started. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. I’m a novice baker so I apologize for a couple questions which probably sound pretty obvious to you. When you say “shortening,” what does that mean? Is it like Crisco or is it cooking oil or something else? And do the oats need to be cooked first or are they just added in as a raw dry ingredient? These look great and I can’t wait to make them and eat them! Thank you.

  14. I’m short on butter, and it’s a cold rainy day here and don’t want to drag my newborn and toddler out. Do you think substituting about half coconut oil in place of the butter I’m short would work?
