I know I’ve been talking a lot about Dorothy latelyand how chummy we are. And I totally don’t want to be that girl who’s all like, “Me and my BFF this, and me and my BFF that, and my BFF this, etc.”
Did you know those girls in high school? Or college? Or now? You could also use “boyfriend” “interchangeably” with “BFF.” Usually, they were namedropping to prove that A) they had more friends than just you (because this is important during those insecure teen years), and/or B) they had a boyfriend around whom their entire universe revolved (also important as a teenage girl).
It was annoying, right?
I promise: I’m not trying to be that girl. Dorothy and I have just been spending a lot of online time together, what with Online BlogCon and all (go register!!), so it’s only natural that her name come up, right? Or have I crossed over the crazy stalker threshold? Wait. Don’t answer that.
Either way, I must mention Dorothy in this post. Because our minds did that weird thing again– you know, when we come up with basically the exact same recipe around the same time? Refer to exhibits A: the football dips (minehers), B: the cake batter dips (minehers), and C: the monster cookie magic bars (minehers).
Last week, Dorothy posted a S’mores Granola recipe using a homemade Graham Cracker Butter. Oh, yes she did. And on that very same day, I had whipped up my own Oreo Butter. I kid you not.
Uncanny, right??
I certainly thought so! But the more I began thinking about the uncanny-ness of the situation, the less bizarre it seemed.
I started thinking about when the inspiration to make my own cookie butter struck me: I was in the peanut butter aisle, staring at the Biscoff, wondering when a new, dazzling cookie butter product might magically show up on the shelf.
And how many of you do the same thing? You eagerly skim the candy and baking aisles each time you go to the store, fingers crossed you’ll find some new and unusual product that you can rush home and bake into a cookie or pie, right?
See? Maybe we’ve never met, but we’re totally grocery-shopping-twinners.

Oreo Butter Kiss Cookies

Ingredients

For the Oreo Butter:

  • 2 cups Oreo Cookie crumbs
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, room temperature*

For the Kiss Cookies:

  • 1/2 c. Oreo butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 c. Shortening (NOT butter)
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 3/4 c. AP flour
  • 1/4 c. granulated sugar, for coating
  • 3 doz. Cookies & Cream Hershey Kisses

Instructions

For the Oreo Butter:

  1. Combine oreo crumbs and coconut oil in a blender or food processor (I simply used a mason jar attached to my blender base, like I did for this recipe) until smooth.
  2. The coconut oil will heat while blending, so it will turn into a liquid. Let the butter rest for a few hours before using in a cookie recipe. Overnight is really best if you have the time. Don't put it in the refrigerator-- it will become solid.
  3. Once the consistency is similar to peanut butter, it's ready to use! The Oreo butter will be gritty, but once incorporated into a recipe, you can't tell at all.

For the Kiss Cookies:

  1. In a stand mixer, beat together the oreo butter, shortening, sugar, and brown sugar until creamy.
  2. Add the baking powder, baking soda, egg, milk and vanilla. Mix well.
  3. Add the flour, and mix until dough forms.
  4. Scoop out dough by rounded tablespoons and roll in sugar. Place dough balls on a parchment lined cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake at 350º for 10 minutes.
  6. Immediately press a hershey kiss into the center of each cookie after baking. Let cool on the sheet.

  1. These Oreo Cookie Butter Cookies will be the talk of Christmas, I’m sure. My younger brother and I are Oreo cookie lovers from waaaaay back – since we were babies, This will definitely give us a fun memory.

    • For the oreo cookie butter, do you use just the cookie and not the cream? Also, why is shortening better vs. Butter? This looks amazing and I can’t wait to try it!

      • I definitely used the WHOLE Oreo! SO YUMMY!! 🙂 Shortening is better in these cookies because it helps stabilize the cookie. There is a lot more sugar than in a normal cookie recipe, thanks to the Oreo butter, which means these cookies will want to go flat if you use butter instead of shortening.

  2. I just finished making these. They are perfect! I followed the directions exactly. I made the Oreo butter yesterday to give it time to rest- there was enough to make two batches of cookies. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
