I think I just witnessed the most adorable trick or treating that has ever happened. I mean, I know everyone has the cutest kid. But, seriously. You should have seen this.

First off, Emma was an ice cream cone. Cute points there, obviously.

Second of all, she really “got it” this year– racing to the front doors, leaving sticky hand prints where she knocked, and shouting “trick or treat” into the candy bowls.

Of course, everything the child says is all garbled, so it really sounded more like “Chee-chee-chee!”

(That’s how she says multiple word phrases– she picks one of the words, and says it in place of all of the words. In this case, it was “treat” pronounced chee. Still cute, because she’s two. Right?)

We’ve actually been Trick or Treating three times this year! Three!! Which is a little ridiculous, truthfully. But I think I needed it.

Not that I need the candy from three times of trick or treating– that’s just an added bonus (PS- thanks neighbor who let all three of us pick out full sized candy bars at your house!).

This year it just took me a little longer to get into Halloween and enjoy the “family time” part of it. And it wasn’t until our third Trick or Treating trip that I really started to appreciate that time we were spending together.

Things have been so crazy for us this fall. That’s not to say anything crazy or out of the ordinary is going on. It’s just that there seems to be a lot more of the ordinary happening lately. And all at the same time! Between the blog, and Chris’s classes, and Emma’s preschool and speech therapy, and the work we do at church… we haven’t taken many opportunities to spend family time together lately.

So thanks, October, for this super random and unnecessary holiday filled with kit kats and family time. I needed it this year πŸ™‚

Oh– and also? Thanks for the Pumpkin Spice Hershey kisses. They’ve been amazing. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I’m sad to see they’re going on sale already. I was hoping they’d stay stocked through Thanksgiving! Fortunately, I have 7 more bags left in my personal stash. So I’m good for at least another 2 weeks…

Just kidding. They’ll last me longer than that (eh…..).

Anyway. I’ve been sad to hear that so many of you haven’t found the Pumpkin Kisses in your local stores! So I’ve decided to share my stash, and give away one of my precious bags to someone who hasn’t been able to find them this year! Leave me a comment with your email address if you haven’t been able to get your paws on any Pumpkin Kisses yet, and I’ll send a bag your way!

I’ll pick a winner using random.org on Friday night, November 2, and announce it at the Sweet Treats and Swanky Stuff Link Party!

Pumpkin Praline Fudge

Ingredients

  • 1 bag Pumpkin Spice Hershey Kisses
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips or candy melts
  • 1 14.5 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 bag of Kraft Caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 cup Heath Toffee Bits
  • Optional: pecans for topping

Instructions

  1. Line an 8x8 baking dish with wax paper or parchment paper and lightly spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan over LOW heat, stir together the hershey kisses, the white chocolate, and the sweetened condensed milk until melted and smooth. The mixture should start to pull away from the edges a little.
  3. Turn the heat off, but leave the mixture in the pot to stay warm.
  4. Place the caramels in a bowl with 1 tbsp water. Stir to moisten all of the caramels. Melt by 30 second intervals in the microwave until smooth.
  5. Pour the hershey kiss mixture into the 8x8 baking dish (if needed, reheat for a few seconds on the stove).
  6. Pour the caramel over top of the fudge. Use a knife or a spatula to "swirl" the caramel into the fudge-- make sure to scoop up fudge from the bottom of the dish on top of the caramel, so that the caramel isn't all just sitting on top.
  7. Sprinkle the toffee bits and the (optional) chopped pecans over top, lightly press (or mix) into the fudge.
  8. Let cool at room temperature. to harden for 4-6 hours. Overnight is really best. Cut into 1" squares. Makes approximately 64 pieces.

Special Notes:

  • You may notice that my fudge turned out a little…. ooey. Which was delicious, for sure. But a little hard to eat without a mess! I used a full package of caramels in my fudge, but I’m recommending only half a package in this recipe so as to help you avoid an ooey caramel mess! But feel free to use the entire package if you’re up to the task!
  • You can also melt the kisses, chocolate, and SCM in the microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring in between until melted and smooth.

  1. I actually found some kisses at my Target! And I loooove them. So you can re-pick when I’m drawn as the winner. πŸ˜‰

This fudge rocks. And those pics of you and Emma…so flipping cute. I second – we didn’t go with friends this year…and it was nice to just be together.

Now…your party is on Friday, right? Just making sure…because last time I let you walk around with spinach in your front teeth. πŸ˜‰

  2. I think i squealed a little and it’s past midnight, oops! But pumpkin praline fudge? Holy yes please. Then I saw all the US things in the recipe which we don’t get here. And now I’m sad because these look epic amazing and I desperatly wanted to make some myself.

Either way, I’m bookmarking these bad boys and will be doing some mad scientist research to see if I can adapt it with UK bits n’ bobs and make them!

    Happy Halloween!
