Q&A: Peanut Butter Cookies

Why do peanut butter cookies have fork marks?

Peanut butter doesn’t melt as quickly as butter does, so that means peanut butter cookies are much denser than other cookies.  Unless you flatten peanut butter cookies before baking them (with fork marks or the bottom of a glass, as we do in this recipe), the cookies won’t spread enough to bake properly.

Should you refrigerate peanut butter cookie dough before baking?

Nope! Not in this recipe. I’ve made this cookie recipe as simple as I possibly can, and all you need to do is mix the three ingredients together and pop the cookies right in the oven!

How can you tell if peanut butter cookies are done?

Peanut butter cookies are a little trickier than others to gauge done-ness simply by looking at them, because they are a naturally slightly darker from the peanut butter. Generally speaking, the cookies should look dry on top and be slightly firm to the touch. You may see a little brown on the bottoms.
